And he rewarded her with his dick being sucked by Carmen? While she was pregnant? I never thought it was possible to hate a non-existent fictional person SOOOOO HARD. Forgive him? FORGIVE HIM? She should have cut his dick off, buried in the desert, and flown to New York and married Edward.
Fiveofushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11088272347133034231noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7336580558754211816.post-22176486721662750532019-04-12T03:23:03.231-04:002019-04-12T03:23:03.231-04:00Where was that in the book? I can't stop thinking about them, dreaming about them, and I don't know what to do now. I feel rimmed to every other book in the world now. I need something else to read that will compare with this series, to help with my Tatiana and Alexander hangover :(Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13690589733788728511noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7336580558754211816.post-29367332169760282132016-02-04T15:39:51.270-05:002016-02-04T15:39:51.270-05:00I'm reading this book for the fourth time agai...I'm reading this book for the fourth time again and stopped just after the argument between Shura and Tatiana following the hospital's Christmas party when Shura says to her one final time: "it's because you've put that place [the hospital - her own recreation of Leningrad] between us and our hope of ever having a baby..."

And what does Tatiana do the next morning? "...Tatiana got up and flew to work in the red Ford Thunderbird rag-top Alexander bought her so she would love him"

Now don't get me wrong - in no way do I condone or even forgive Shura for his actions in that back seat, nor some of his actions shortly thereafter. But to Clay's point that Alexander is upset about Tatiana working when he is also working all day, I guess the way I've always understood it is that he is not thrilled with her working yes, but what upsets him and has filled him with rage is that she is working in the hospital. In the ER. He sees through her. Her work is not about filling her time during the day, she is reliving and trying to recreate her Russian life. She is recreating her trauma again and again and therefore they are stuck and unable to truly create a new life for themselves in America.

I think Paullina writes somewhere earlier that she (and I'm paraphrasing enormously here) sees her mother, father, Dasha, Marina etc in the patients - all the people she couldn't help. It's toxic and therefore it begins to poison their marriage. She can't help herself of course because she is who she is but this is at the heart of their problems. Even PTSD Alexander said before (paraphrasing again) that unlike her, he did not want to recreate their Russian life in America. And that is why they are struggling to have a baby at this point.

So yes Alexander is a scumbag for ALL of his actions but he is the scumbag she is creating. There is nothing wrong with a woman working, and Lord knows I don't clean and cook and make bread from scratch or half the things Tatiana does for Shura. But what he needed most from her was a new life (that's really all the baby represented) and after he fought his way through the the PTSD with her help, she is in fact, still very much struggling with her own. But she wasn't a soldier with visible scars so her trauma is more subtle and not easy to see or admit to, even to herself and therefore the "wounds" festered in their marriage.

My word but PS is bloody good!!!Nosiphohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15553630789226260342noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7336580558754211816.post-31462021419027960232016-01-23T11:32:09.941-05:002016-01-23T11:32:09.941-05:00Thanks for your comment, Birdy. I'm thrilled people come across my blog and love Shura and Tatiana as much as I do. :) Make sure to check Facebook - there are Bronze Horseman sites there where you can be part of the discussion. Also - Paullina Simons has a Facebook page and is on Twitter, as well. :) Purgatory Carolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04206226666250028550noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7336580558754211816.post-51364420338898069012016-01-07T12:13:19.032-05:002016-01-07T12:13:19.032-05:00I stumbled upon this blog after I'd finished r...I stumbled upon this blog after I'd finished reading TBH for the 4th or 5th time. I needed to feel that there were others who were just as consumed by the series as I have been - just to make sure that I'm not completely insane. Though I usually find romance novels to be far too melodramatic and have NEVER read anything recommended by my mother (oops), this series has broken my heart, healed me and given me hope for a life that is truly worth living. The first time I read TBH was in 2011 and I finished it in 2days, completely neglecting my boyfriend. I had no idea it was part of a series and neither did my mother. We cried together and cried and cried and for months I was depressed, constantly thinking what a hopeless love T and A had. To ease my pain and sought out other Paullina Simons books - specifically 'Tully' (which I still have never found). I stumbled upon 'A Song in the Daylight' and was transformed by it in a completely different way.
Finding nothing else to read I began reading other books like 'A Thousand Spledid Suns' by Khaled Hosseini. I highly recommend this book, it is right up there with TBH. Then one day out of the blue, over a year later, as I was searching for 'Tully' once again at the book store I found 'Tatiana and Alexander'. My heart stopped. I must have looked a fool in the shop just gaping at the book afraid to pick it up even. I bought it, then went online to see if there were more and bought The Summer Garden e-book, share the books with my mother and the rest is history for me.
Thank you for this blog. Thank you Paullina Simons. Thank you Tatiana and Shura.
P.S. I absolutely loved watching the characters grow and seeing Alexander transformed and become more imperfect. After everything they went through it would have been a disservice to the characters to have them work out any other way. The changes and growth made them even more tangible (as if that were possible) and more heroic in the end. God help me find a love like this in my life?!Nosiphohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15553630789226260342noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7336580558754211816.post-69210860345046417012015-11-28T10:46:01.888-05:002015-11-28T10:46:01.888-05:00Oh Jengaleb. I have some fun reads (total "candy" for the eyes) but no epic reads like this. Check out The Book Bosses (TheBookBosses.blogspot.com) - Hildy and JJ run a super fun book recommendation site and you might find some suggestions for things you may like there. :) OH and PS - have you read the prequels to the Bronze Horseman series?? Children of Liberty is fantastic!! I haven't read Bellagrand yet (continuation of Children of Liberty; about Shura's parents) but I know I will love it. (I have to be in the right place, mentally, for that one...and will blog it as I read.) I don't like the changes in Shura's character in the last book, even though I understand the reasons behind them. But I am definitely in withdrawals and looking for another series of this caliber. I have read the Outlander Series in its entirety several times and also ITW and its sequel, though I wasn't as impressed with ITW. Any suggestions? I felt like I was on the deck with them. It was so raw and so emotional from both of them. I could feel the individual emotions as I read each line they spoke to each other. I was floored when Tatiana told him what she would do if she was carrying his child. My heart sank! I understand his reaction to this but don't condone it. But was where was he supposed to go after what she said? When she asked him how he thought she would react when she found out and he said " I didn't think you would care. " That ripped my heart out. That's when I really realized he could never live without her. She was eveything to him. She could've moved on with a shattered heart but he couldn't and probably wouldn't.

I have to agree with Carol, his indescretion was hard to forgive but Tania's was worse because it was emotional adultry. You can move past the plainly physical adultry but the emotional adultry is much more devastating.

I dont think I've ever read a scene from any book as raw and true to human nature as this. I've been wandering around the internet to check if Shura's tattoos were on the second or third book (cause I couldn't remember and I'm lazy as hell to check in my physical books) and then I've found this blog! Gorgeous!
It may sound sort of childish, but this was probable the most shocking scene I've ever had in a book in my life. I felt violated when they start to describe his tattoos and the scars, was like it was in my own flesh... Brazil is THAT behind regarding the book release (only the first part of the first book has been published!) but all my friends are reading it in english, spanish or some internet translations.
